Can you save my tree instead of removing it?
Often, yes. We will tell you honestly either way.
What about the neighbor's tree hanging over my yard?
In Virginia you can generally trim back to the property line, but not enough to kill the tree. Talking to the neighbor first saves a lot of trouble.
Does insurance cover this?
Usually only if the tree has hit a structure. A tree that fell in the yard is normally on you.
How soon can you come?
Emergencies same or next day. Normal work is scheduled.
A well-pruned tree does not look pruned. It just looks healthy.
That is the goal. Not a shaped hedge, not a bare pole, just a tree with its weight balanced and its dead wood gone.
Clearance pruning is the other half of what we do. Limbs over the roof drop debris into gutters and hold moisture against shingles. Limbs over the driveway scrape vehicles. Limbs into the power drop are a utility problem and a fire risk.
None of that requires taking the tree down. It requires the right cuts in the right places.
Storms here do not give much warning. Trees planted too close to houses in the 1970s are now full size.
Pin oak is one of the first to show damage, because the wood is not as strong as the tree's size suggests. Big canopy, weak fiber.

Most people want the stump gone for one of three reasons: they want to mow over it, they want to plant something there, or they are tired of looking at it.
All three are good reasons. Grinding handles all three.
What we need to know first is what is underground. Water lines, septic, electric, irrigation, invisible fence. We call for utility marking on anything we are not sure about. A grinder does not stop for a water line, so this step is not optional.
Clay-heavy suburban soil, often compacted from construction means we plan the depth around what the ground will give us.
Every species fails in a predictable way.
Pin oak and sugar maple are the two we work on most in Jolivue. Fast growers put on size quickly, but the wood is softer, and softer wood splits at branch unions.
White pine is sturdier, though the limbs get heavy enough that a single one coming down can take out a fence or a car.
Norway spruce grows slowly and usually gives you more warning before anything goes wrong.
